Senior Day: Anna Sovic

MACON, Ga. – Throughout the month of April, Mercer University athletics will feature each of the seniors who wore the Black & Orange during the shortened spring 2020 season.

The NCAA has indicated that spring sports seniors could receive an extra season of eligibility and return, as the 2020 spring season would have been their final year of competition, all student-athletes representing Bears baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field will receive their "Senior Day" this spring.

The senior day spotlight continues with women's tennis' Anna Sovic.

About Anna
Sovic was a four-year member of the Bears women's tennis team. During her senior season, which was cut short because of COVID-19, Sovic was second on the team with five single wins. Besides her five single wins, she had four doubles victories.

Coming in as a freshman in 2016-17, Sovic was 2-5 in singles play and 8-6 in doubles before her season was cut short after suffering a season-ending injury.

Sovic battled back from injury for her sophomore season which saw her go 2-3 in singles play and 9-3 in doubles action. She opened her sophomore season with seven straight doubles wins alongside Katie Sidor.

During her junior season, Sovic played all 17 of her singles matches in flights No. 5 and 6. She earned singles wins against Western Carolina, Elon, SCAD, and Florida A&M.

Coach's Thoughts
"Anna is a blue collar worker and tough as they come," stated head coach Eric Hayes. "I have not had a player, male or female, put in the amount of work Anna has. She is always looking to hit and train as much as she can and pushed herself to the limit. Like Marie, she could make me smile or laugh at the most crucial time in a match and she is a true WARRIOR!!"
