
Mercer Drops Match To ETSU, 5-2

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its conference match at home to ETSU, 5-2 Thursday afternoon from the Copelan Tennis Complex.
Starting with doubles, ETSU's Niyati Kukreti and Audelie Lesauvage defeated Antonia Schweigel and Marie Bannmeyer, 6-2. The match on court one went to Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg, 6-4. That left the doubles point up to a close battle on court two between Tea Zivic and Sofia Tsitavets and ETSU's Julia Millan and Ksenija Rage. The match went to a tiebreaker that ETSU's Millan and Rage won, 7-6(4) to earn the doubles point for the Bucs.
In singles action, ETSU's Mariangel Estrella defeated Jelena Gojkovic, 6-0, 6-0. On court four, Audelie Lesauvage of ETSU picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win over Bannmeyer to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead.
Sofiya Tsitavets played well to earn a 6-3, 6-3 win over ETSU's Julia Millan on court three. Court five saw a three set contest between Ines Hömberg and ETSU's Niyati Kukreti. Kukreti ended up earning the 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 win to clinch the match for the Bucs.
On court two, Tea Zivic nearly forced a third set but fell to Alessandra Caceres of ETSU, 6-2, 7-6(4). Marina de Diego Quinones was able to hold of ETSU's Ksenija Rage, 7-6(3), 6-4 in a matchup of both team's number one singles player to end the match with the score 5-2, ETSU.
Mercer will return next Thursday, April 2 to to take on Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
