MACON, Ga. – Throughout the month of April, Mercer University athletics will feature each of the seniors who wore the Black & Orange during the shortened spring 2020 season.
The NCAA has indicated that spring sports seniors could receive an extra season of eligibility and return, as the 2020 spring season would have been their final year of competition, all student-athletes representing Bears baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field will receive their "Senior Day" this spring.
Â
The senior day spotlight continues with women's track and field's Nidhi Shashidhara.
About Nidhi
Shashidhara came to Mercer in 2017 and competed in two meets as a true freshman. She ran the 1,500-meter event at the Beynon Sport Catamount Classic and earned a top-30 finish. The following season she ran in three meets and turned in a season-best 2:41.80 in the 800-meter run at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
As a junior, she competed in the 1500-meter run at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals and finished inside the top-25, completing the race in 5:33.26. She did not compete in the lone meet of 2020 due to injury.
In the classroom, she was named to the Southern Conference Honor Roll for three academic years and was an Academic All-Conference selection for three semesters. After graduation, she will join the Peace Corps.
Coach's Thoughts
"Nidhi has accomplished so much during her four years on the course, in the classroom, and in the community," said head cross country and assistant track and field coach Josh Hayman. "She maintained an impressive GPA with a 4.0 this past fall, is involved with several organizations, including the Mercer Green Coalition, and was selected to join the Peace Corps upon graduation. Nidhi has been an excellent leader for our team and has represented our program very well over the years. I wish I could have coached her all four years! We are extremely proud of her and will miss her next year."
