Spencer Ball is a member of the men’s golf team
MACON, Ga. – It takes a special combination of academic excellence and athletic skill to be able to succeed as a student-athlete at Mercer University. Throughout the next few months, we will highlight these young men and women who have the privilege of calling themselves a Bear.
Â
Today, we highlight men's golf senior Spencer Ball.
Ball, a native of Suwanee, Ga., has played for Mercer for the last three seasons after transferring from Armstrong State. Ball has played 75 rounds as a member of the Bears, boasting a career average of 74.15 strokes per round. He has 10 top-20 finishes in his career, including six during his first season in Macon in 2017-18. During that season, he set personal bests in number of rounds (28), lowest average score (73.79) and highest finish (4th at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate).
Why did you choose Mercer?
The school I attended my freshman year cut their athletic department due to a merger, so I had to transfer to continue my collegiate career. I chose Mercer because of the mix of athletics and academics and the opportunity to switch to Division I.Â
 Â
What is your favorite moment at Mercer?
My favorite moment at Mercer was whenever we were able to get the team together to do something competitive like play basketball in the UC or something similar to that.   Â
Â
What is your favorite sporting event you have been a part of at Mercer?
Favorite sporting event would be getting to go up to Inverness in Toledo, Ohio twice for a tournament and playing a course that has hosted multiple majors and other USGA events. Â
Â
Do you have any game day rituals?
None.Â
Â
What are you working to get your degree in and what is your end goal?
I will be receiving my undergrad in marketing here in a few weeks and hope to work in college athletics.Â
