
Sybil Blalock Named to NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee

Blalock’s name has been synonymous with Mercer for more than 40 years
INDIANAPOLIS – Mercer University announced today that Deputy Athletic Director for Academic Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator Sybil Blalock has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee.

Blalock has more than 30 years of experience in NCAA Division I athletic administration. Prior to her promotion to Deputy AD, she served as Mercer's Senior Associate Athletic Director. The appointment to the men's soccer committee will be her fourth time serving on an NCAA committee.

"I am honored to be part of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee," said Blalock. "It is rewarding to work with my fellow committee members, the NCAA staff and the collegiate soccer community. I am excited about this opportunity and can't wait to begin the committee work ahead of us."

The Sevierville, Tenn. native serves on several Mercer, Southern Conference and national committees. She most recently served five years on the NCAA DI Women's Basketball Committee. Blalock has also been on the Women's Basketball Advancement Committee and chaired the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Committee. At the conference level, Blalock has served as a sport liaison for basketball, tennis and lacrosse. In addition, she has also served on the Strategic Planning Committee, Committee for Officials and as Tournament Director for several conference championships.

Blalock's name has been associated with Mercer for more than 40 years, beginning when she donned the Black & Orange as a women's basketball standout.
With a record of 87-13 during her career, Blalock-led Mercer teams were some of the most successful squads that Mercer has put on the hardwood in the history of the program. The Bears were Southern Women's Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions her freshman season and AIAW regional champs the following season. In her junior year, Mercer won the Georgia AIAW Tournament and advanced to the championship game of the AIAW regional tournament. During her senior season, the Bears advanced to the Women's National Invitational Tournament making it to the Round of 16.
Blalock had a stellar collegiate career, leaving her name throughout the record books. Following the completion of her senior campaign, Blalock began her professional career by playing overseas in Europe and Venezuela. She also played professionally for the New Orleans Pride In the WBL for three years. Along the way Blalock was selected as a member of the United States World University team and the U.S. Olympic Development Team. She was inducted in the Mercer Hall of Fame and is one of only three females to have her jersey retired. Blalock is a member of the Macon Sports Hall of Fame and the Sevier County Athletic Hall of Fame.
