The Mercer Athletic Foundation and Playa Society raised more than $4,000 for the Mercer Women’s Athletic Endowment
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Athletic Foundation recently partnered with Playa Society to celebrate and empower female athletes while simultaneously raising money for the Mercer Women's Athletic Endowment. Co-Branded limited edition t-shirts were produced by Playa Society and featured Mercer's colors and logo.
The Mercer Women's Athletic Endowment supports Mercer's 10 women's varsity athletics programs by enhancing the quality of training and competition for female student-athletes, as well as enhancing professional development opportunities for female coaches.
This one-of-a-kind partnership yielded extraordinary results, seeing an outpouring of support that exceeded all expectations. A total of 297 co-branded t-shirts were sold, ultimately leading to $4,361 going directly towards the Mercer Women's Athletic Endowment. Additionally, thanks to the loyalty of MAF board members, a shirt was purchased for every one of Mercer's female student-athletes and their coaches.
"This partnership was a complete success," remarked Brian Gerrity, Mercer Senior Associate AD and Executive Director of MAF. "Not only did we raise over $4,000 for our women's athletic endowment, but we were able to provide shirts for each and every female athlete at Mercer. Playa Society is a brand with a powerful message – supporting and empowering female athletes. This partnership will continue to grow, and I look forward to working with Playa Society again down the road."
"Mercer women's golf partnered up with Playa Society at our 2019 Brickyard Collegiate with the original "Female Athlete" t-shirt, and it was a wild success," added head women's golf coach Michele Drinkard. "It's been exciting to see a second successful partnership between Playa Society and Mercer Athletics. Thank you to the Mercer Athletic Foundation for empowering women!"
About Playa Society
Esther Wallace founded Playa Society after her experience as a basketball player and coach. She began playing at age 15, and looking back, Wallace realized that a lack of representation for women in sports deterred her from playing at a younger age.Â
