Marie Mottet was a four year member of the women's tennis team
MACON, Ga. – It takes a special combination of academic excellence and athletic skill to be able to succeed as a student-athlete at Mercer University. Throughout the next few months, we will highlight these young men and women who have the privilege of calling themselves a Bear.
Â
Today, we highlight women's tennis senior Marie Mottet.
Mottet was a four-year member of the Bears women's tennis team. Besides being a key member of the team, Mottet performed at the highest level in the classroom. The Versailles, France native continued her winning ways over her junior and senior seasons. In her junior year she won five straight matches from March 7-17. She was 9-9 overall in singles and finished the season with a 5-2 mark in SoCon play. In her senior season, Mottet had three wins in No. 5 singles

Why did you choose Mercer?
I chose Mercer because of the high quality of academics, beautiful campus and athletic program. What makes Mercer University so special is the positive atmosphere and sense of community. I am very grateful and proud to be part of the Mercer family and have the chance to represent Mercer on the tennis court. I am thankful for all the opportunities and moments I had for 4 years, I will strongly miss Mercer.Â
What is your favorite moment at Mercer?
I cannot think of only one moment in the past four years I spent at Mercer University because I had many unforgettable moments. I will never forget the volunteering missions and events we got to be part of with the Mercer community, the hours of practice and travel with the team and coaches and the events and activities with the faculty members in Stetson building. Without forgetting the great people, I got the chance to meet here at Mercer and with who I built lifelong relationships.Â
Â
What is your favorite sporting event you have been a part of at Mercer?
My favorite sporting event I have been a part of at Mercer is when we won against UNCG 4-1 to get to the final four of conference and play in the semis of the SoCon tournament in the spring of 2017. My freshman year season, we finished third in conference. It was a great team and a great run. Even though we wanted to win the tournament, I believe that it is my favorite sporting event I have been part of at Mercer.
Do you have any game day rituals?Â
On game day I like to be with my team before the match to eat, and then I really like to play our playlist during warm up. Doing our cheer right before the match is also a ritual I like, and it is very important to cheer each other up after the team meeting.Â
What are you working to get your degree in and what is your end goal?
I am graduating in May 2020 with an International Business Major and minors in Human Resource Management and Marketing. My end goal is to keep studying and complete a Master's degree which I will be doing in France starting in September 2020.Â
