MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team head coach Samantha Eustace announced Madison Carter as her program's new assistant coach on Thursday afternoon. Â
Â
"We are thrilled to be adding Madison Carter to our coaching staff!" Eustace remarked. "We cannot wait for her to bring her passion, energy, and enthusiasm to our program here at Mercer. She has left her mark on Penn State as a player, and we look forward to her making the same impact here as a coach."
Â
Carter was most recently the assistant coach for Integrity Lacrosse Club in Davidson, Md. She is directly in charge of instructing new players of the rules, game strategies, and performance principles. She also coordinates the travel plans to tournaments throughout the east coast.
Â
Prior to her time at Integrity Lacrosse Club, she was a member of the Penn State women's lacrosse team from 2016-2020 under head coach Missy Doherty.
Â
"Madison was one of the top student-athletes to ever come through Penn State. From the very beginning of her career, she had a passion for coaching, and I'm so excited that she has found a great match at Mercer." –Missy Doherty
Â
In her years at Penn State, she ranked fifth in Penn State history with 197 goals and seventh with 218 points, becoming the 15th Nittany Lion to reach the 200 mark. In 2016, she was named the BIG Ten Freshman of the Year, the first for Penn State women's lacrosse. Carter earned IWLCA All-America honors in 2017 and 2018. From 2016-18, Carter was named to the All-BIG Ten Team and to the IWLCA All-Region Team. She was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list in each of her final three seasons.Â
Â
Former teammate and University of Delaware assistant coach, Steph Lazo said, "The Mercer women's lacrosse program is so lucky to have Madison as one of their coaches! Her knowledge, passion and love for the game is unmatched, and she will have an immediate impact on the program. Having coached Madison for a year and played with her for two at Penn State, I can guarantee there will be celebrations on the sideline after every goal and a consistent positive energy every day!"
Â
"I am so excited to join the Mercer women's lacrosse family!" Carter said on joining Mercer. "I want to thank Coach Samantha Eustace, Coach Mike Tyrell, and the athletic department for giving me this opportunity. I cannot wait to get started working with the student-athletes and continue Mercer's winning tradition."
