The duo both spent four years at Mercer and were teammates in 2007 and 2008.
ATLANTA – The ASUN Conference named Mercer women's soccer players Meghan Castaldo and Kacie Hudson to its 2000s all-decade team, the league office announced Friday afternoon.
Castaldo was a four-year member of the Bears soccer team from 2005-08 and appeared in 76 matches. In each of her first two seasons, she netted five goals while scoring three over her final two campaigns in the Black & Orange. In four years, Castaldo scored 15 goals and added 16 assists while helping the Bears to 33 total victories and a 24-13-3 mark in ASUN action. She is currently tied for the sixth-most assists in a single season having recorded seven as a senior. Castaldo also sits in the top-10 with 17 career assists, placing her tied for ninth.
She helped engineer a remarkable turnaround in her final two seasons. After the Bears won just 11 combined contests in 2005 and 2006, Castaldo helped Mercer win 11 matches in each of her final two seasons. The Bears finished as the regular season runner-ups in 2007 and champions in 2008. She earned ASUN All-Conference honors in each of her four seasons. As a sophomore, she tallied five goals and was named First Team All-ASUN. After playing a vital role with one of the best turnarounds in team history, she was a Second Team All-ASUN selection in 2007 before returning to the first team to finish her career. Following her inaugural college soccer campaign, she was named an ASUN All-Freshman Team honoree.
Hudson came to Mercer in 2007 and was a member of the program for four years. Her time with the team culminated in an ASUN Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010.
She immediately made an impact upon stepping on campus, scoring five goals and adding two assists as a freshman en route to ASUN All-Freshman and First Team All-Conference honors. In 2008, she was once again a First Team All-ASUN honoree as a defender. She was a crucial part of a backline that limited the Bears' opponents to 0.50 goals per match and won the ASUN Regular Season Title. Offensively, she scored a pair of unassisted goals.
The 2009 season garnered Hudson her third consecutive all-conference honor as she was selected to the second team. In 18 matches (all starts), she scored four goals and assisted on a pair of goals for 10 points. Hudson capped off her final campaign with Mercer in style scoring six goals and tallying two assists as the Bears compiled an 11-10-1 record. In the ASUN Tournament, Mercer outscored Stetson and Jacksonville by a combined 6-0 score and hoisted the tournament trophy, receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Marietta, Ga. native earned first team all-league honors and all-tournament recognition as a senior.
