
Mercer Defeats The Citadel in Four Sets

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears defeated The Citadel in four sets on Saturday at Hawkins Arena.

The Bears won 3-1 (29-27, 25-16, 20-25, 25-13).

MERCER VS THE CITADEL

Set One | The Bears were off to a hot start, quickly going up 10-5 behind kills from Brittany Major, Jaida Howell, and Annie Karle. The Bulldogs and Bears traded points until it was all tied up at 18 a piece. A Bulldog error and Howell kill, gave the Black and Orange a two-point lead. It was another back and forth game until kills from Howell and Major gave the Bears the set, 29-27.

Set Two | Mercer opened the second set with a Brittany Major kill and Rayanne de Oliveira first ace as a Bear. The Bears took a 10-5 lead after going on a 5-0 run behind three aces from Megan Smith an kills from Annie Karle and Nya Steele. Mercer skated their way to the end of the set 25-16.

Set Three | Mercer came out of the gates ready to end the match, going up 4-0. The Bulldogs were not ready to quit. With a late rally, the Bulldogs took the set 25-20.

Set Four | The Bears started the set like the three before, taking a 10-5 lead. Mercer went on an 8-0 run behind three service aces and a kill by de Oliveira, Howell, and Malia Randolph. The Black and Orange took the set 25-13.
