Amoria Neal-Tysor averaged 27.5 points as Mercer swept UNCG last weekend
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer junior Amoria Neal-Tysor was named the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by GEICO, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Neal-Tysor earned the first weekly honor of her career after leading the Bears to a weekend sweep at UNCG on Thursday and Saturday. The Sanford, N.C., native averaged 27.5 points per game, dropping 25 and 30 against the Spartans. She connected on 63.9 percent (23-of-36) of her shots from the field and 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from beyond-the-arc. It was the second time this season Neal-Tysor had recorded consecutive 20-point games and the second time she reached 30 points. She got the ball rolling for Mercer in both games, averaging 19.0 points in the first half between the two games.
Â
"I'm really proud of Amoria and how hard she played in Greensboro," said head coach Susie Gardner. "She really took control offensively, and she had the hot hand so we kept going to her. I'm also really proud of this team and the way we have stuck together all season long."
Â
the Bears have won five of their last six games and went 4-1 on their previous road trip that started on Dec. 18. Neal-Tysor has been one of the premier scorers in the Southern Conference this season, leading the league in points per game (17.9), total points (215) and field goal percentage (46.9 pct.). She also ranks second in the SoCon in 3-pointers made (28), 3-pointers per game (2.3) and 3-point percentage (40.6 pct.).
Â
