Head coach Tony Economopoulos kept it short and sweet after tonight's tie. "We had a plethora of shots on target, but only one goal to show for it. We played good defense all game long as well but all it takes is their second shot on goal to tie up the match. I know we can be a dangerous team in the tournament and moving forward. Furthermore, I believe in this team we just have to be able to finish our opportunities if we want to earn 3 points."
After a hundred and ten minutes, the Bears were able to record thirty-four shots on goal and stayed dominate on the offensive third throughout the match. Aliah Kitchens and Lana Whitfield were able to get some great looks in the match, however, they were off the mark. Payton Schurr found herself in the in 18 as well throughout the match, but the Bears were unable to put some of the missing pieces of the puzzle together. Nevertheless, sophomore Jordan Lynn stepped up for the Orange & Black by scoring a PK in the 12' minute. Entering into the first half with a 1-0 lead. They continued to have good looks in the second half from smart possessions, clear corners and set pieces but as the game moved closer to the end the Bears couldn't find the back of the net for a second finish.
The Bulldogs attacked stronger in the second half. With their midfield being led by Suzuka Yosue they were able to get good looks moving in the Mercer 18. As they played back and forth with the Bears, The Citadel pushed forward, and it was Suzuka who scored the game tying goal in the 81' minute unassisted. Going into overtime both teams made promising efforts but were both unable to find that hard fought and sought-after golden goal.
The Citadel received two yellow cards on the night.
