Bears fall to Bisons in final non-conference contest
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the penultimate time in the 2021 regular season, the Mercer Bears (7-7-1, 3-1-1 SoCon) took to the road, this time against the Lipscomb Bisons (9-3-2, 4-2 ASUN), a former ASUN foe.
In the first 45, the Bears' attack fired off 11 shots on Lipscomb's Michael Sibley, and Ousman Jabang and Liam Coxhead led with a pair of shots each on goal. Mercer keeper, Trevor McMullen, stopped seven shots from the Bisons attack.
Five minutes into the second stanza, Lipscomb struck first when Javanne Smith and Bakary Bagayoko assisted Alejandro Lopez for the opening goal. Ten minutes later, the Bisons doubled their lead when Tyrese Spicer slid the ball past McMullen. Three minutes after the second Lipscomb goal, Kadeem Agard halved the deficit when he was assisted by Jabang in the 63rd minute mark. Lipscomb put the match out of reach when Marlon Grossman added an insurance goal in the 87th minute for the 3-1 advantage.
With the result, Mercer sees their four-match winning streak come to an end.
This Saturday, October 30, the Bears will wrap up the regular season at Wofford. Kickoff from Spartanburg, South Carolina is slated for 7 p.m.
