MACON – Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Roth earned the first clean sheet of his young collegiate career after tallying four saves in a 0-0 draw against the College of Charleston at Betts Stadium in Mercer's regular season finale on Friday night.
Roth stepped into the box to fill in for the injured Henry Hampshaw and notched his second career start against the Cougars. After not seeing any action as a true freshman, the Marietta, Georgia, native stepped between the pipes four times this season and logged over 230 minutes in a Mercer uniform.
Before the start of Friday's match, head coach Brad Ruzzo and the men's soccer team honored four seniors for their contributions to the program both on and off the pitch. Among the seniors recognized was captain AJ Pama, who stepped into the defensive midfield due to several injuries to the Bears' roster. Pama completed the entire 90 minutes and captained Mercer to its third shutout of the year. Bryce Griffith, another senior recognized during the pre-match festivities, led Mercer's offense with two shots and fired one on target in the 56th minute.
Will Taylor returned to the pitch after missing Mercer's last six matches due to illness. Taylor played 83 minutes and attempted two shots in his return.
UP NEXT
The Bears begin postseason play this Tuesday, November 3, at VMI in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament. The last time Mercer traveled to Lexington, Virginia, they fell to the Keydets, 4-2, despite scoring just 10 seconds into the match on Saturday, November 24.
