LAST TIME OUT
Mercer saw its first game against Arkansas in Bud Walton Arena on Nov. 9. The Bears held an eight-point lead at the half but fell short at the end as the final was 74-61. Four players reached double-digits in scoring with Glisson III (12), Haase (10), Robertson (12), and Walker Jr. (10). Turnovers were the Bears' downfall, but they look to use that energy to motivate them throughout the rest of the season, especially in tomorrow's matchup against the Eagles.Â
Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Bears and Eagles are set at 1-1 in the series. The first matchup between these two teams dates back to the 1997-98 season. The Bears won at home, 86-75. The following year the Bears traveled to Winthrop and lost 63-96.Â
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop left the 2020-21 season going four for five in their last couple matchups. The Eagles went to the NCAA tournament and lost in the first round to Villanova. However, with Mark Prosser's arrival, the Eagles have begun a new era in an invigorating fashion with a 110-78 win against Mary Baldwin. The Eagles went 3-1 in nonconference matchups last season. Winthrop men's basketball is favored to capture a third consecutive Big South Conference championship as the league office held its annual Basketball Media Day. The Eagles, led by first-year head coach Mark Prosser, received 23 first-place votes and 152 overall.
