Jabang, Gaither and Agard tabbed All-SoCon
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer men's soccer saw three Bears – Ousman Jabang, Dylan Gaither and Kadeem Agard – be recognized by the Southern Conference as the league announced its postseason honors.
Jabang, a First Team honoree, led the Bears in assists with seven this season, which was the fifth-most in the league and 33rd in Division I. The McDonough, Georgia native's brace was the difference in the 3-2 road win at in-state foe, Georgia Southern last month.
Gaither, the leading scorer for Mercer, was a Second Team selection from the league. The Lilburn, Georgia native is no stranger to conference accolades, as this was his third consecutive nod from the league behind First Team and All-Freshman over his previous two campaigns. In his junior season, Gaither notched eight goals – which placed him fifth in the SoCon, and his 0.50 goals per game ranked 53rd in Division I. In the season opener, his hat trick led the Bears in a 4-0 rout of Gardner-Webb.
Immediately making his presence known, Agard added 13 points for the Bears in his freshman season. The Snellville, Georgia native scored three goals in his first five matches with the Bears, firing off three shots. His 80th-minute strike for goal was the difference in a 1-0 conference-opening win over Furman at Betts Stadium.
League coaches voted on a pair of all-conference teams, an all-freshman team and the four individual accolades. Coaches are not allowed to vote for either themselves or their own student-athletes. The first and second teams include 11 members, voted based on position, while the all-freshman team has 11 members, but does not give regard to position.
