Series History
This is the fifth all-time meeting between the Bears and Demon Deacons, with Wake Forest holding a commanding 4-1 advantage. Three years ago to the date, Wake Forest took a 69-54 win on their home court in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mercer's lone win - an 86-47 contest - was the first of the series, in January 1979. One matchup – 1987 – took place in a neutral site, in Tampa, Fla. as part of the South Florida Tournament.
Banner Night
Prior to tipoff, banners will be revealed for last season's SoCon championship and NCAA tournament appearance. Make sure that you're seated to see them unveiled tomorrow night.
New Season, New Bears
There will be plenty of new faces at Hawkins Arena for the 2021-22 season, as Mercer welcomes eight new student-athletes – Kinley Fisher, Endia Banks, Erin Houpt, Erin Gutierrez, Kassidy Jones, Nigeria Harkless, Ashlee Locke and Lauren McNamara-Clement – to campus.
Scouting the Demon Deacons
Like Mercer, Wake Forest is coming off of an appearance in the NCAA tournament in the 2020-21 campaign. The Demon Deacons dropped their lone game in the invitational by an 84-61 margin to Oklahoma State in San Antonio, it was Wake Forest's first appearance in the big dance since the 1987-88 season.
Wake Forest enters the season having been selected to finish 13th of 15 in the ACC by the league's coaches, and 12th by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
