Duo tabbed to third team by United Soccer Coaches
MACON, Ga. – Two Mercer men's soccer players – Ousman Jabang and Dylan Gaither – were tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA DI Men's All-South Region Third Team.
Jabang and Gaither led the Bears attack with a combined 18 goals and 12 assists. Mercer was just one of two schools (UNCG) from the SoCon to land multiple student-athletes on the team.
A first team All-SoCon selection, Jabang led the Bears with eight assists, which placed him 42nd in Division I. His brace was the difference in the 3-2 win at Georgia Southern and added an assist in the thrilling 4-3 win over Belmont to clinch the SoCon title and the NCAA tournament berth.
Gaither, a second team All-SoCon selection, paced Mercer with 14 goals and led the nation in shot accuracy (.700) this past season. The junior's 0.74 goals per game placed him 10th in Division I and had contributed five game-winning scores, which was also 10th nationally. His hat trick in the SoCon semifinal in a 4-0 romp over Furman carried to the Bears to the final the next weekend.
Mercer finished the 2021 season with their fourth SoCon tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
