Brant Zulauf posted a three-save shutout against Jacksonville on Sunday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brant Zulauf was recognized as the Southern Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Zulauf turned in a strong performance in his second career start for the Bears, stopping all three shots he faced en route to a 1-0 victory. The Alpharetta, Ga., native earned a shutout in his first career victory. Zulauf became the third Mercer player to be recognized in the last two weeks as JR DeRose and Dawson Gideon swept the conference's awards last week.

Mercer returns to the pitch on Sunday as it heads to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB at 6 p.m. (ET).
