Mercer Falls to Winthrop in a Close One

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Chloe Schaeffer and Lily Morin led the Bears with three goals each in Mercer's 11-14 loss against Winthrop on Saturday.
Mercer started slow falling to a 0-6 deficit in the first 13 minutes. Just under the 14-minute mark, Hailey Rhatigan got the Bears on the board with an eight meter, her third of the season. Less than three minutes later, it was Rhatigan again with another free position goal to cut the Eagles lead to four. Sophomore Chloe Schaeffer was quick to score her first goal of the game after Rhatigan's free position. Winthrop would score two more to take an 8-3 lead at the half.

Schaeffer did not let halftime cool her down. Less than two minutes into the second half, she score her second goal of the game and her third of the season. Midfielder Lily Morin was right behind Chloe, scoring her first of the game with an assist from Erin Degnan at the 27:13 mark. Eight minutes later, Morin found the back of the net again with a free position goal the cut the Bears deficit to three. The Black and Orange would continue their hot streak when Shannon Urey went between the pipes for her second goal of the season. 34 seconds later, Chloe Schaeffer scored her third and final goal of the game to put the Bears within one. Winthrop scored another goal to make it a two-goal game, but Lily Morin would not let it be for long. At 15:09, she scored an unassisted goal to put it back at a one-goal game. Shannon Urey would score her second goal of the game, followed by a goal from Maddi Koury. Winthrop would add to their total and take the game 14-11.
