Bears Drop Hard-Fought Battle at UAB

Mercer returns to the pitch on March 13 against UNCG
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match at UAB, 1-0, on Sunday evening.
The Bears had a strong first half as they outshot the Blazers 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes of the contest while matching the home side with three corner kicks. UAB managed to compile nine second-half shots and outshot Mercer 12-8 in the match.
JR DeRose played a solid game in goal for Mercer as he made four saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer went on the offensive early as Dawson Gideon tested the Blazers keeper in the sixth minute. DeRose stopped the home team's only shot on goal of the first half in the 12th minute on a shot from Krenar Krasniqi.
After a scoreless first half, UAB came out of the break with a more offensive mindset and put some pressure on the Bears. The Blazers broke the scoreless tie at the 79:37 mark when Mayno Linares scored off a pass from Brooks Rice. The Bears were unable to find the equalizer in the final 10 minutes.
