McMahon Leads Mercer Distance Runners in Atlanta

The distance runners competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational
ATLANTA – Mercer's distance runners competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday night, and Ashley McMahon led the way with a ninth-place finish and new personal best in the 5000-meter run.

The Bears began the night by competing in the 5000-meter event, which was split into two sections. In the first section, Jerrica Hanson paced a trio of Bears, running the highly competitive race in 19:29.76. Isabella LeBlanc did not finish far behind, clocking in at 19:54.54, while Jaycie Calvert finished the race in 20:26.03 in her outdoor track collegiate debut.

McMahon and Marina Van Sickle represented Mercer in the second section of the race. McMahon set a new PR of 17:59.16, finishing ninth, while Van Sickle crossed the line in 18th with a time of 18.36.62. After the results were combined, Hanson was credited with 26th, LeBlanc 28th and Calvert 32nd.

In the 1,500-meter run, Giulia Giorgi ran 28th, finishing the race in under five minutes (4:55.32)
