Mercer Drops 1-0 Decision at Belmont
4/3/2021 9:42:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The Bears finished the season with a 4-9-1 record
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Mercer men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Belmont at E.S. Rose Park on Saturday evening.
Dawson Gideon and Dylan Gaither each recorded two shots in the game with Gideon placing both of his attempts on goal. Belmont would up outshooting Mercer 10-8 in the game, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal as both keepers, JR DeRose and Drew Romig, made four saves on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides battled back and forth for the first 30 minutes of the game until Belmont broke through in the 33rd minute. The Bruins worked a give-and-go down the right sideline before a cross into the box forced DeRose to come off his line and punch the ball away from the goal mouth. Belmont's Jack show gathered the ball shortly thereafter, however, and sent the ball toward the goal as the Bears goalkeeper was getting back into position. Jordan Dozzi was standing in front of the net and deflected the ball in to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Mercer continued to battle throughout the final 57 minutes of the match but was unable to find the equalizer.
