Mercer Set for Third Consecutive Championship Game Against Furman

The Bears are looking for their third title
MACON, Ga. – After upsetting the No. 2 seed Chanticleers, the Mercer Bears set their focus on the top seeded Paladins in both teams third consecutive Southern Conference Championship on Saturday at 12 p.m.

This is the third championship meeting between the Bears and Paladins. Mercer has taken the first two championship meetings with an 18-8 win in 2018 and a 15-14 overtime win in 2019. Â Â

ABOUT THE BEARS
Mercer is coming off a 13-11 semifinal win over No. 2 Coastal Carolina on Thursday night. With the win over Coastal Carolina, head coach Samantha Eustace earned her 50th career win as a head coach. Junior Hailey Rhatigan led the Bears with six goals and four assists. Her 10 points sets a new career high for the midfielder. Her previous high was nine points against Detroit Mercy her freshman season. Rhatigan also leads the SoCon in shots per game with 7.33. Iseabal Cryne led Mercer with four groundballs. The goalie saw all 60 minutes in the cage and stopped 12 shots. Cryne is currently second in the conference with a .420 save percentage. Kayla Soltys won three draw controls and forced two caused turnovers. Erin Degnan is at the top of the Southern Conference in draw controls per game. The sophomore is averaging 3.15 draws per game.

Furman is coming off a 21-4 semifinal win over No. 4 Wofford on Thursday. Kyra LaMotte led the Paladins with six goals. Avery McIllwaine followed with four, Meagan Beal and Sophie Shaw with three, and Hannah Demis with two. Three Paladins scored one goal to cap off Furman's scoring. Meghan Deehan saw all 60 minutes in cage, stopping two shots. Defender Ellie Roser led the Paladins, forcing three caused turnovers. LaMotte led Furman, snagging four groundballs. Furman is looking to capture their first Southern Conference Championship.
