Bears Return Home for Conference Play

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears volleyball team will begin conference play this weekend at home. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY
The last meeting between the Bears against the Bulldogs/Terriers was in 2021. The Bears swept both teams. Mercer leads the record over The Citadel, 14-2 and over Wofford, 13-10.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs have started the season with an overall record of 4-2. Despite their late start, two players have received SoCon Player of the Week honors: outside hitter, Sharlissa de Jesus (Sep 13) and libero, Kenzie Kellerman (Sep 20). Kellerman averages 4.26 digs per set and de Jesus has recorded 102 kills in their first six matches. De Jesus was also named to the SoCon Pre-Season All-Conference Team. Head Coach Dave Zelenock is in his third season with the Bulldogs and have led them to their best record start.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
The Terriers currently hold a 6-7 record, 0-1 within the conference. Meghan Yaffa and Emily Hodsdon received Player of the Week honors in the same week, respectively (Aug 30). Yaffa also received SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week (Sep 1). Yaffa leads the team in kills (135) and is ranked fifth in assists (6), and second in service aces (13), and blocks (25). Sarah Barham, Pre-Season All-Conference, follows Yaffa in kills (101) and service aces (10). Barham leads the team in blocks (50). Lynze Roos is in her seventh season over the team.

Brittany Major was selected All-Tournament Team in the Georgia Southern Tournament.
Taylor Lynch leads the team in kills (109), Agnieska Paskevic - assists (280), Rayanne de Oliveira - service aces (15) and blocks (23), and Megan Smith leads in digs (172).
