Bears Ready to Host Wofford in Monday Showdown

Men’s tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET. On ESPNU
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears welcome the Wofford Terriers to Hawkins Arena on Monday, Jan. 31 with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. This will be the Bears first matchup with Terriers this year. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU making this the second national broadcast for the Bears this year.

LAST TIME OUT: Mercer fell short to Furman on Saturday, January 29, in Hawkins Arena by a final score of 80-50. The Bears held a small lead early in the game, but in the end the Paladins offense was too much. Kamar Robertson led all Bears with 13 points in the contest on 5-of-10 shooting and going 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Jordan Jones chipped in with a team-high five rebounds and five points. Mercer's bench saw a lot of action against Furman. The Bears scored 25 points off the bench and 12 players saw at least 5 minutes of action.
SERIES HISTORY: The Terriers lead the series 30-24. Even though the Bears have completed regular season play against Samford and Furman, this will be their first matchup this season with Wofford. The last time the two teams met was when No. 7 seed Bears upset the No. 2 seed Terriers, 62-61, in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Southern Conference Tournament. The last win at Hawkins Arena for the Bears against the Terriers came on February 29, 2020, with a final score of 59-47. In that game, the Mercer defense held the Terrier's to their lowest points total all season.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS: Wofford Terriers (13-9, SoCon 5-5) are coming off a dominant 85-66 win against UNCG Spartans (12-9, 4-5 SoCon). Max Klesmit led the Terriers with 18 points on 4-of-9 from behind the arc. Five Terriers finished in double figures while canning a season-high 16 3-pointers on the night to bounce back in the win column. For the 13th game this season, Wofford had three or more players hit at least two 3-pointers apiece. Wofford busted things open in the second half on 14-of-20 shooting (70%) to notch its largest margin of victory over the Spartans in its last seven meetings.
Wofford is led by their big man B.J. Mack who leads the team with 15.7 points per game and is second on the team with 5.5 rebounds per game. Max Klesmit, who was on the SoCon All-Freshman team last year, is second in scoring with 14.9 points per game. The Terriers have three other players averaging just under 10 points a game – Ryan Larson (9.6 ppg), Isaiah Bigelow (9.4 ppg) and Messiah Jones (9.4 ppg).
