Bears Bully the Bulldogs

Mercer wins, 83-80, against Samford
MACON, Ga. – Coach Greg Gary and the Bears defeat the Bulldogs of Samford, 83-80. Mercer starts their first SoCon game of the season and the New Year with a victory. Samford, at the start of today's game, had the second most wins in the conference behind Chattanooga.

Mercer (8-6, 1-0 SoCon) had Felipe Haase tally 24 points while going 10-of-11 shooting at the free throw line with seven assists as well. Shannon Grant had himself a second half and had a career high 23 points and a career high 10 rebounds for the Orange & Black. Grant's first double-double. Jacksen Greco played quality minutes for the Bears tonight and added a great defensive presence. Shawn Walker Jr. notched 12 points on the night along with four rebounds and five assists. Kamar Robertson had 11 points and played strong with three assists and six rebounds.

Samford (10-4, 0-2) had Jermaine Marshall with 24 points with 17 of them coming in the first half for the Bulldogs.  Logan Dye added 20 points in 30 minutes of gameplay. Ques Glover had himself a second half as well while finishing with 23 points, 18 of them coming in the last twenty. Jacob Tryon fouled out of tonight's matchup with 10:26 left in the second half. The Bulldogs move to 0-2 in the conference.Â
