Bears Fumble Match on the Road

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Mercer fell against the Samford Bulldogs this afternoon with a final match score of 0-3.
Mercer finished with 25 kills and a .138HIT%. Annie Karle led the Bears in kills (8) and led both teams in attacks (37). Paige Wagers led the teams in blocks (4).Set One | Samford got out to a fast start, taking a 4-1 lead. Paige Wagers's back-to-back kills and errors from the Bulldogs pushed the Bears to take the lead. Samford retaliated with a 5-0 scoring run and led 15-13 by the first time out. Annie Karle and Lillian Beardsley racked up more kills later in the set. However, Samford refused to give up the lead and took the set 25-20.
Set Two | The Bulldogs kept their momentum going taking a 4-0 lead. They would continue to dominate and lead 13-8 at the first timeout. After the time out, Samford would go on their second 4-0 scoring run of the set. The Bears would go on a 3-0 scoring run, but could not catch up lost the set 18- 25.
Set Three | The Bears tried to take beginning momentum, but Samford quickly took the lead after a 4-0 scoring run. Big kills from Wagers and back-to-back Rachel Bell would chip away at their lead and Mercer only trailed 12-15 at the first time out. Samford would further their lead with a 6-0 scoring run and take the set 16-25.
UP NEXT 
Mercer will continue conference play at home on Friday(Oct. 14) against Wofford at 7 pm in Hawkins Arena.
