Moorman’s Two Goals Leads Bears

Bears Get SoCon Win Over Western Carolina
Macon, Ga—Jada Moorman's two first half goals led the Mercer Bears (6-3-4 overall, 1-1-2 SoCon) to a 2-1 victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts (2-5-4 overall, 1-2-0 SoCon) Sunday night at Betts Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Moorman broke open the scoreless tie after Kendall Cook's corner kick pinballed around the Western Carolina 6-yard box. WCU goalkeeper Leanne Trudel couldn't corral the loose ball and Moorman rapped it home for her fourth goal of the season. Ten minutes later--31 minutes into the contest--Moorman took a long pass from Jamie Hlebec and moved smartly down the right side, and drove home her second goal of the game and fifth of the season, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The two-goal margin didn't last long, as just four minutes later, Terry Riley was able to get the ball past Mercer goalkeeper Lindsay Bell from a sharp angle from the right edge of the 18-yard area.
Bell didn't let that rattle her, and was very composed the remainder of the game. She played several balls off the goal line to thwart Catamount rushes. And made the save of the game with 16 minutes left, diving far to her right to rob Maggie Lloyd's blast from 10 yards out. Bell punched the ball clear of the left post to preserve the lead and eventually the win.
NOTABLES
The Bears hit the road for the next three games, starting at Wofford on Thursday October 6. Western Carolina will be at home Friday taking on North Carolina-Greensboro.
