Explosive Second Half On Senior Night

Bears Blank VMI, 5-0
Macon, Ga.--The Mercer Bears' women's soccer team returned home for the first time in 19 days and defeated the VMI Keydets, 5-0 on senior night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears (9-3-5 overall, 4-1-3 SoCon) scored 25 minutes into the first half when Jada Moorman scored from the top of the penalty area, giving the freshman her seventh goal on the season. Â VMI (1-15-2 overall, 0-8-0 SoCon) was hanging in with the Bears through the first 45 minutes.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Bears explosion began. On senior night, senior Ciara Whitely scored to make it 2-0. Just 16 seconds later, Mercer got a penalty kick and senior Nicole Icen converted to make it 3-0. Senior Aliah Kitchens converted a cross from Lena Dykes in the 65th minute. Lana Whitfield scored in the 75th minute to round out the scoring. Along with the senior goal scorers, another senior, Amaya Evans, had two assists in the game.
NOTABLES
The Bears play at home Sunday Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. against North Carolina-Greensboro. The Bears are mathematically still alive for the conference regular season championship. The regular season concludes on Sunday.
