Bears Complete Undefeated Home Slate
Macon, Ga.--The Mercer Bears and North Carolina Greensboro women's soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie Sunday at Betts Stadium, in the regular season finale for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears (9-3-6 overall, 4-1-4 SoCon) took the lead in the second half when Keelin Pray scored with 11 minutes left. Mercer's Nicole Icen had taken a shot that UNCG (8-7-3 overall, 4-3 -2SoCon) goalkeeper Emma Malone made the save on, but the rebound came out in front, and Pray made no mistake in putting the ball into the empty net.
Mercer was able to hold its lead for 10 and a half of the final 11 minutes. Off a corner kick from the Spartans' Gabi Santora, crossed it into the goal area where Ally Hackett got her head on the ball and redirected it past Bears' goalkeeper Lindsay Bell to tie the game 1-1 with only 33 seconds left.
NOTABLES
The Bears are the number three seed in the Southern Conference tournament and will play sixth seeded ETSU in the quarterfinals on Oct. 28. That game will be hosted by Samford, the number two seeded team in the tournament. Â
