The Bears concluded their Dig Orange Match against WCU this afternoon.
MACON, GA - The Mercer Bears go 0-3 against #2 Western Carolina University at their Dig Orange Match.
The Dig Orange Match raised over $500 for the fight against Leukemia! The game ball was presented to cancer survivors Deven Jackson and Kelsey Hall during the match.Â

Set One | WCU would start with a 4-0 scoring run that was cut off by a big kill from Annie Karle. The Catamounts would lead 9-3 by the first timeout. Western Carolina would continue their lead with three consecutive aces. Karle and Paige Waigers picked up multiple kills throughout the set that chipped away at the lead. The Bears could not catch up to WCU and dropped the set 13-25.
Set Two | The Bears tried to gain momentum in the second set. Kiera McCarles assisted multiple attacks and had a gorgeous tip of her own to keep up with the Catamounts. The Bears took the lead after a 5-0 scoring run thanks to three service aces from Lillian Beardsley and errors from WCU. Mercer continued to dominate and led at the timeout 16-12. Western Carolina retaliated to tie it up at 16 and took the lead for the remainder of the set. Mercer battled for a comeback, but WCU kept the lead and took the set 25-21.
Set Three | Waigers started the set with a big kill and the Bears would continue this lead until tying it up at 7. Western Carolina pulled away and led the set 13-9 at the first timeout. Emma Jose and Jaidia Howell dominated with kills to help the Bears lessen the lead. WCU kept the lead to take the set 25-18.

Mercer will continue conference play at home tomorrow, Oct. 22, against UNC Greensboro at 4 p.m.Â
