Three players named to preseason All-SoCon team
Asheville, N.C. – Three players on the Mercer women's basketball team were named to the preseason All-Conference team and Amoria Neal-Tysor was named preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday at the Southern Conference basketball media day.
Amoria Neal-Tysor, Jaron Dougherty, and Erin Houpt were all named to the preseason All-SoCon team.

The preseason All-SoCon team consists of 10 players. Mercer had the most players selected with three.

Last season, Neal-Tysor led the team in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. She finished third in the conference in assists and steals per game. In the SoCon championship game Neal-Tysor tallied 26 points en route to being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the second consecutive season.

The preseason coaches and media polls were revealed as well. Mercer was picked to finish first in the conference in both polls.

Last season, Amoria Neal-Tysor was named All-SoCon First Team, Jaron Dougherty was named All-SoCon Second Team, and Erin Houpt was named SoCon Freshman of the Year. Dougherty finished eighth in the conference averaging 10.7 points per game and second on the team in rebounds per game (6.7). Houpt led the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.5 percent for the year. Her 60 made threes were third-most in the conference.

The women's basketball team plays its season opener at home on November 7 at 7 p.m. against Middle Tennessee.
