Five Bears Nab SoCon Honors

Moorman Top Freshman
Macon, Ga.—Five members of the Mercer women's soccer team have earned postseason honors from the Southern Conference, the league announced on Thursday, October 27.
Freshman forward Jada Moorman led the honors parade for the Bears. League coaches voted Moorman onto the first team all-conference, the all-freshman team, and voted her Freshman of the Year. Moorman is the first Bear to be Freshman of the Year.
Forwards Nicole Icen, Ciara Whitely, and defender Kylie Buchannan earned recognition on the second team all-conference. Prior to the season, coaches had tabbed Whitely and Buchanan to the preseason all-conference team.
The fifth Bear honored is freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Bell, who, along with Moorman is a member of the all-freshman team.
"I'm very proud of all these players for their hard work and dedication," coach Tony Economopoulos said. "They are all very deserving of this recognition.
"Jada Moorman really did stand out," he said. "All year long we had coaches telling us they couldn't believe she's a freshman."
Moorman and Icen tied for the league goal scoring lead in all games with seven goals. Moorman twice earned Offensive Player of the Week honors. League honors aren't anything new to Bell, either. She was named the Defensive Player of the Week October 11.
The Bears are gearing up to face East Tennessee State in the Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday October 28, at 7 p.m. Eastern in Birmingham, Alabama. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in Macon on Sept. 29. The winner of Friday's game will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between The Citadel and Samford. That semifinal game will take place on Sunday Oct. 30.
