Bears fall to ETSU

Johnson City, TN - The Mercer Bears battled and went 0-3 against Eastern Tennessee State University this afternoon.
Set One | ETSU came out hot and took an early 4-1 lead that was cut short by a kill from Annie Karle. Mercer would go on a 3-0 scoring run thanks to big blocks from Rachel Bell and a kill from Kiera McCarles. Mercer still trailed 11-15 by the first timeout. Mercer gained momentum and went on another 3-0 scoring run to lessen the deficit. ESTU refused to give up the lead and after a 6-1 scoring run would take the set 25-18.
Set Two | Mercer came into this set with a lot of energy to take an early 3-0 lead. The teams would tie it up at 5, but the Bears continued to keep the lead with multiple big kills from Lillian Beardsley. The set score stayed within one-point differences that were showcased by big kills from Jaidia Howell. ETSU would go on two scoring runs to take the set 25-20.
Set Three | After the Bears took the match's first point, ETSU would go on a 6-0 scoring run. The run was cut short with a kill by Howell. Karle and Howell picked up a couple more kills as Mercer tried to catch up. Mercer had a 3-0 scoring run at 16, but ETSU kept their momentum and took the set 25-18.
UP NEXT
Mercer will stay in Tennessee to face the University of Chattanooga (Oct. 29) for the second time this season.
