
Lady Bears Have a Strong Finish at SoCon Championship

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. – The Mercer men return to Macon with a top-three team finish at the Southern Conference Championships hosted by the Citadel at John's Island County Park. The Lady Bears come home in 6th, tying for a program-best finish in the conference.Â

"I'm really proud of both groups for matching our program's best-ever finish at the Conference Championship," said Coach Hayman. "We come home with very few regrets knowing that we put together a good day and ran at our best. "
WOMEN'S RACE (5K)
On the women's side, the Bears were led by Giulia Giorgi who ran to a 29th-place finish in a time of 18:33 for a personal best performance. This was the first time Giorgia led the Bears in her career. The Bears averaged 18:55 over the 5,000-meter course good for 4th fastest in Mercer history.Â
The tight pack of scorers of Giorgi (29th), Laney Doster (31st, 18:43), Leah Pfaff (35th, 18:56), Bri Teegarden (36th, 19:02) Reese Robertson (45th, 19:24) led the lady Bears to tying their program-best finish of 6th place as a team.
Personal Bear Records Broken:
Both teams will travel to Huntsville, Ala. for the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship on Nov. 11.
