Bears Battle in Four

MACON, GA - The Mercer Bears battled and went 1-3 against The Citadel this afternoon.
Set One | A big kill from Paige Wagers started the set on a strong note. The Bears kept this energy with multiple kills from Rachel Bell. They led at the first timeout 15-12. Multiple kills from Karle kept the Bears out in front for most of the set. The Citadel picked away at their lead, but would not keep up and dropped the set 23-25.
Set Two | Mercer took a slight lead at the beginning of the set with Wagers and Lexi Uhrhan racking up more kills. The Citadel retaliated and tied it up at 9. The Citadel held this lead at the first timeout (15-12). Mercer would tear away at their lead with big blocks coming from Wagers and Lillian Beardsley. They would get to 23 and push the Bulldogs to go to 26. A kill from Howell and Wagers would tie it up at 25. Mercer would tie again at 26, but The Citadel would slide by and take 28-26.
Set Three | The teams would tie multiple times for most of the match. Wagers and Karle continued to pick up kills to stay on The Citadel's tail. The Bulldogs held a 15-9 lead at the first timeout. Howell dominated the net as she picked up multiple kills throughout the set. The Citadel furthered their lead with big plays and errors from the Bears to take the set, 25-15.
Set Four | Bears took an early 5-2 lead thanks to a big kill from Howell and Bell. The Citadel pulled ahead and led 10-6 at the first timeout. Mercer slowly cut down the deficit with big sets from Kiera McCarles. The Bears could not keep up and The Citadel took the set, 25-18.
UP NEXT
Mercer will be at home tomorrow (Nov. 5) to face off against Furman. The Bears will honor their Senior players before the match.Â
