MACON, Ga. – Mercer Men's soccer's Ousman Jabang was drafted by the Le CF Montréal with the 17th pick in the third round of the MLS Super Draft today.Â
Â
Ousman Jabang became the second player under Head Coach Brad Ruzzo to be selected during the MLS Super Draft. Â
During his freshman campaign, Jabang started three games as a true freshman and had two goals and an assist during his time on the pitch. Jabang's sophomore year only showed improvement by making nine starts and producing one assist and one goal. Jabang's junior year campaign saw him start in all 18 games and tailed seven assists and two goals. Jabang's seven assists were tied for third-most in the SoCon. His overall play was vital to the team and helped Mercer win the 2021 SoCon tournament. Following the conference tournament, Jabang received recognition as a member of the 2021 First-Team All-SoCon and was a member of the 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA DI Men's All-South Region Third Team. During Jabang's senior year, he produced two goals and five assists on the season and was named to the 2022 SoCon Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team.Â
Â
When asked about Ousman Jabang being Drafted by the CF Montréal, Head Coach Brad Ruzzo had this to say:
Â
"For Ousman to be drafted is a testament to his hard work and determination to get better every day. The most important trait that Ousman has is his will to win and competitiveness above any individual accomplishment he has earned.
Â
This is certainly a special day for Ousman, our program, and Mercer University and having our second MLS draft pick in the program is a testament to our winning culture that has been developed over the years.Â
Â
He certainly deserves this opportunity as he will go down as one of the best players in Southern Conference and Mercer Soccer history. He has all the physical tools along with the mental tools to succeed at this level and I can't wait to follow his professional career."
