Preview On Pitching Staff

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball will bring several talented arms to the table this season. The Bears have 15-18 pitchers that will have the ability to make an impact during this season.

Tanner Hall will look to anchor the staff. Hall is 11-8 on his career with a 4.90 career ERA and 110 strikeouts. Hall recorded an impressive 3-1 record with a 2.55 ERA during the shortened 2020 season. He posted 37 strikeouts in his 24.2 innings pitched.

Luke Sutko will close out games for Mercer this season. Sutko earned 12 saves for the orange and black last season. He struck out 58 batters in his 48 innings of work.

Jackson Kelley will be a swing guy for Mercer, he can start and also relieve. Kelley is 8-5 during his career with a pair of saves. Last season, Kelley recorded 73 strikeouts in his 68.2 innings of work. Kelley was named the 2020 DI Baseball SoCon Breakout Pitcher and named to their top sophomore pitchers list.

Josh Farmer is coming off a 4-1 season for Mercer last year. He struck out 38 of the batters he faced last season. He is 6-2 on his career with a 4.8 ERA.

Robert Bennett is another player for Mercer who can close, can start, and do a lot of different things on the mound. The left hander went 3-0 in 2021, striking out 14 batters in his 15 innings of action.

Zach Turner, Fred Wilson, Wesley Franklin, and Alex McKay are returners who will look to make more key contributions to the pitching staff.

New players to keep an eye on, on the mound are Colton Cosper, Josh Harlow, Ryan Lobus, and Walt Thomas.

First pitch for Mercer will be on February 18 at 6 P.M. as the Bears take on Eastern Kentucky at OrthoGeorgia Park.
