Strong Win on Senior Day

Mercer dispatches High Point, 14-11
MACON, Ga. – In their last home games, Sean Goldsmith and Nicholas Rockefeller led the Mercer offense with a hat trick apiece as the Bears took down High Point on Saturday for Senior Day by a 14-11 margin.
It didn't take long for the Bears' (5-10, 2-3 SoCon) offense to arrive as Luke Sadd set up Rockefeller for a strike at 14:10 in the first for the early 1-0 advantage. Not even a minute later, Goldsmith assisted Daniel Shumake for the 2-0 lead. On an unassisted play, Asher Nolting got the Panthers (7-7, 2-3 SoCon) on the board and halved their deficit with 7:39 left in the frame. Jack McGuire brought it back to a two-goal lead at 3-1 with 3:52 left. High Point closed the quarter's scoring with a strike with 1:11 left.
High Point took their first lead of the game with two goals in the opening 43 ticks of the second for the 4-3 advantage. Goldsmith scored a pair to swing the lead back to the Bears and was assisted on the latter one by Kyle Cox to go back up 5-4. The visitors countered with a pair to go up 6-5 with 6:23 to go in the half. Cole Leggett tied things back up at 6 with 3:31 left, but the visitors snuck one past Colin Kelley for a 7-6 lead with just four seconds left in the quarter.
A Hunter Vines strike with 12:12 left in the third gave High Point a two-goal lead that turned to be their last of the contest. To swing the momentum back, Shumake helped on a pair of goals by Taylor Dooley and Rockefeller, which sandwiched an Ashton Woods goal right off his faceoff win for the 9-8 lead. HPU leveled things back not even a minute later following an unassisted goal to bring the game to 9-9.
Parker Junod and Ashton Wood brought the lead back to a pair when they found the back of the net in the quarter's final 7:03. Rockefeller tallied the assist on the Junod strike.
Two scores within the fourth's 4:23 tied the game for High Point at 11 a side, their final tally came on a man-up opportunity. Mercer took the lead for good at 12-11 with 10:19 left when Goldsmith connected with Rockefeller for the go-ahead score. With just 4:51 left, Junod set up Goldsmith with a goal for the 13-11 lead. With 1:29 left, Dooley found the back of the net for Mercer as the Bears went up 14-11.
Mercer fired 48 shots on the day, with 27 being on frame. Goldsmith led the Orange & Black with 14 shots. Wood won 20-of-27 (74.1%) of faceoffs and Garrett Meuninck won one of two.
Wesley Chairs led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers. In net, Kelley stopped 14 shots from the Panthers' attack in the game's entirety.
