MACON, Ga. - Mercer head baseball coach Craig Gibson has named Johnathan Langley as a new volunteer assistant coach. Langley will primarily work with catchers and outfielders and coach first base.
Prior to Mercer, Langley spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first season in 2018, Langley was with AZL Dodgers where he helped lead the team to the AZL championship. Additionally, he worked with players on rehab assignment in Arizona.
He spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons on Dave Roberts staff as a Major League bullpen catcher. He primarily worked with pitchers and catchers as well as assisting with video and scouting. Langley was part of two NL West championships and a Dodgers' team that won a World Series in 2020.
After his stint with the Dodgers, Langley spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach with the Brookhaven Bucks of the Sunbelt Baseball league. He was responsible for catchers and helped out with the hitters. Langley then returned to Dunwoody for the 2022 season to coach his alma mater, Dunwoody High School, helping lead the team to a Region 7-AAAAAAA championship. At Dunwoody, he was responsible for all pitcher and catcher development.
A native of Dunwoody, Georgia, Langley is an only child where his parents (Ken & Pam) still reside today.
"We are extremely pleased to have Johnathan join our coaching staff," Gibson said. "He has been a part of the Georgia Tech baseball family as well as the 2020 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. He will assist in all areas of our program from on-campus recruiting to monitoring the student-athlete academic work load, to working hand-in-hand with the staff on the field. His major field responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working with the catchers and the outfielders on a daily basis. Jonathan will also oversee all the on-campus camps as well as our annual First Pitch Classic event. We are certainly excited about having Johnathan joining our team."
