Looking to Remain Unbeaten
The Game: The Mercer Bears women's soccer team will strive to remain unbeaten, shooting for its fourth win in a row, when it travels to Troy, Alabama, on Thursday Sept. 1 to take on the Troy University Trojans. Game time is 7 p.m. Eastern. This is the home opener for Troy.Â
Records: Mercer 3-0-1 overall; 0-0-0 SoCon. Troy 1-2-1 overall; 0-0-0 Sun BeltÂ
Last Games: The Bears beat Stetson 4-1 on Sunday for their third straight victory. Troy battled North Alabama to a scoreless tie on Sunday. Â
Getting Offensive: For the second straight week, the Bears have the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Jada Moorman scored three goals in the Bears' two victories last week. She had her first two collegiate goals, including the game winning goal, in the 4-1 win over College of Charleston on Friday, and completed the scoring in the Bears' 4-1 victory over Stetson on Sunday. Moorman follows Kendall Cook as SoCon Offensive Player of the Week.Â
Staying Stingy: Not only are the Bears having success on the attacking end of the field, they've been taking care of business in their own end as well. Mercer has given up just one goal in each of its four games. Sophomore Lindsay Bell has been the goalkeeper all four games. Â
Last Meeting: The teams battled through a scoreless tie in regulation time, and Troy scored five and a half minutes into overtime for a 1-0 win on Feb. 28, 2021.Â
