
Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule

Schroeder excited about potential of this year's squad
MACON, Ga.  – Head volleyball coach Derek Schroeder has announced his 20-match regular season schedule. The Bears will play an exhibition match at Georgia State before their first tournament at Florida Atlantic.Â

"It has been a couple of years since Mercer volleyball has approached a preseason and not had a substantial veteran presence on the team," said coach Schroeder. "We are all pretty excited about the potential of this year's squad but understand we have a lot of work to do to get there. I am hopeful the strength of this schedule will help us achieve great heights."

Schroeder's squad will begin play on Aug. 26 against Lehigh at 12 p.m. before closing the day with a 7 p.m. battle against FAU. The Orange & Black will battle Alabama A&M on the tournament's final day, Aug. 27, at 12 p.m.

The Bears will then hold their own tournament Sept. 2-3. Mercer will play Southern Mississippi on Friday. On Saturday, the Bears will face Queens (11 a.m.) and Charleston Southern (6 p.m.).

After opening play in the friendly confines of Hawkins Arena, the Bears will head south to Florida to play in the University of Stetson's two-day tournament. Mercer will start the weekend by taking on Bethune Cookman (Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. ). On the final day of matches, Schroeder will lead the Bears into action against SIUE at 10 a.m. and against SU at 6 p.m.

On Sept. 16, Mercer will play in its second different state of the month when it travels to Virginia to compete against Maryland (12:30 p.m.) and UVA (7:30 p.m.). The Bears will finish out the weekend on Sept. 17 against ECU. This will conclude Mercer's non-conference play.

The Bears will travel to face UNCG and Western Carolina on Sept. 23 and 24. Mercer will open play against Chattanooga (Sept. 30) before playing ETSU (Oct. 1) at home. The Bears will be back on the road to face Furman(Oct. 7) The Citadel( Oct. 8) and Samford (Oct. 12).

The Bears will play three Southern Conference foes at home by hosting Wofford (Oct. 14), Western Carolina (Oct. 21, 7 p.m.), and UNCG (Oct. 22, 4 p.m.). Dig Orange will take place on Oct. 21. The Orange & Black will be tested on the road as they face ETSU (Oct. 28) and Chattanooga (Oct. 29, 4 p.m.). The Bears swept ETSU in both contests last season.Â

The beginning of the new month features home contests against The Citadel (Nov. 4, 7 p.m.) and rival Furman (Nov. 5, 4 p.m.). Senior Night will also take place at this contest. Following the Furman contest, the Bears will face Samford on Nov. 9 for their last regular season home game. Mercer will conclude its regular season at Wofford on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.

The majority of the 2022 Southern Conference tournament will take place in Greenville, S.C. Last season, the Bears swept Furman to gain the title of SoCon regular season champions. The 2022 tournament will be held on Nov. 18-20. The winner will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
