New Bear Gets Invite To Prestigious Event
Macon, Ga.—Mercer women's tennis player Teodora Ristic will be making her first representation for the Bears in a very notable collegiate tournament taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Sept. 16-18.
"This is big tournament and really an honor for Teodora to be invited," Bears' tennis coach Eric Hayes said. "It'll be a great way to start the season, and start her career here at Mercer.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC) began in 1975. One of the most influential people to start it was legendary Marquette University basketball coach (and later national broadcaster) Al McGuire. The tournament has become a key event in the NCAA tennis calendar.
The MTC will is classified as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Gold Level event, meaning the men's and women's singles champions will receive a wild card into the 2022 ITA Fall National Championships, to be held November 2-6 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California.Â
Ristic is a senior transfer for Mercer, coming from Gardner-Webb. She was the number one singles player at Gardner Webb. Ristic was also the 2022 Big South Player of the Year. Ristic's progress and all the results of the MTC are available at milwaukeetennisclassic.org
