Bears Comeback In High Scoring Second Half
Macon Ga.—An explosive second half saw the Mercer Bears men's soccer team end a three match winless streak with a 3-2 comeback win over the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers Tuesday night at Betts Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got the only goal of the first half. Ousman Jabang drew a crowd to the six yard box, but was still able to battle through everyone in the mass of humanity and put the ball past goalkeeper Lukas Betz. It was his second goal, assisted by the Agard twins, Sekou and Kadeem.
Then the fun started with 16 minutes gone in the second half. UAB scored its first goal in more than three games, when Nathaniel St. Louis deflected in a shot with his right foot to tie the game, but not for long. UAB came right back as Ohad Buck scored just 1:55 after St. Louis and the Blazers led 2-1.
Kadeem Agard, who was dangerous all night, drew the Bears even in the 72nd minute pounding in a beautiful cross from the left wing from Dylan Gaither. With just under 10 minutes to play, Michael Ille of Mercer dribbled through three defenders at the top edge of the right corner of the 18-yeard box, and launched a beautiful left-footed shot that curled into the upper corner, just inside the left post, to give the Bears their eventual margin of victory.
NOTABLES
The Bears will play their fourth game of a seven-game home stand, hosting North Florida on Saturday Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. UAB plays at Florida Atlantic Saturday.
