Bears, Bucs Battle To Scoreless Tie
9/29/2022 9:05:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Continues Tight Series Between SoCon Foes
Macon, Ga—For the second straight year, the Mercer Bears and East Tennessee State Buccaneers battled to a scoreless tie. This time it was at Betts Stadium on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It really is no surprise these teams battled in a close contest, as now six straight games have been decided by one goal or ended in a tie. The Bears generated offense, but couldn't create enough dangerous scoring chances to test ETSU goalkeeper Shu Ohba. Just past the midway point of the first half, Mercer's Nicole Icen got tangled with Buccaneer Sinoxolo Cesane. As the two were separating, Cesane kicked Icen in the ankle, and received a direct red card ejection.
In spite of being down a player, ETSU was able to seal off defensively, denying the Bears any real quality scoring chances. The Bears also were able to keep the clamps on the Buccaneers resulting in the 0-0 final.
The Bears remain home for another SoCon game against Western Carolina on Sunday at 6 p.m. ETSU visits The Citadel on Monday.
