
Mercer Sweeps Chattanooga, Gets First Conference Win of Season

The Bears had a season-high .321 hitting percentage
Macon, Ga. - Mercer grabbed its first conference win in dominant fashion as it defeated the University of Tennessee Chattanooga 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18) Friday night at Hawkins Arena.
The Bears were clicking offensively. They had a season-high .321 hitting percentage on the night. Mercer also limited its errors as it had a season-low 11 errors in the match.
Two Bears hit better than .500 on the night, and set season-highs in hitting percentage. The Bears were led by Morgan Verheyen who hit .571. Paige Wagers had a .538 hitting percentage with eight kills.
Chattanooga's hitting percentage was .023 and the Mocs had 23 errors in the match.Â
Lillian Beardsley led the Bears in aces (3) and blocks (5) and finished second on the team in kills with nine.
Set Two | The second set was back and forth to start. With the score 8-6 Mercer, the Bears began to take control of the set as they went on a 10-4 run that included kills from Rachel Bell, Anne Karle, and Morgan Verheyen. Bell also had a block and Abbey Havrilla had an ace during the run. Mercer closed the set on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-15.
Set Three | Five of Mercer's first six points in the set were from kills. With Mercer leading 8-7 the Bears would go on to score the next four points, with three of the points from Chattanooga attack and set errors. Chattanooga would score the next three points to make it 14-12 Mercer. Then, the Bears went on a 8-0 run, in which Chattanooga had four attack errors and Annie Karle had two kills and two aces. Lillian Beardsley and Annie Karle each had four kills in the set. The Bears won the set 25-18.
