Bears earn first win of the season
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program (1-2) earned its first win of the season with a 6-1 win over Alabama A&M (1-2) on Saturday morning at the Randy Stephens Tennis Complex.
The Bears earned the doubles point after Marina de Diego Quinones/Kristin Yordanova won 6-1 on court three and Eden Schlagenhauf/Camilla Ciaccia won 6-0 on court two. Mary Weston Courville/Teodora Ristic were leading 5-1 on court one when the point was clinched.
Mercer's second point was won by de Diego Quinones with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory on court five. Courville followed suit in winning 6-4, 6-1 on court two. Schlagenhauf won the match-clinching point on court three with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
After dropping the first set on court four, Ciaccia battled back to win the second set and the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-2. Yordanova closed out the match on court six with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Alabama A&M claimed its only point of the match after Ristic was injured and forced to default on court one after winning the first set 6-1.
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to in-state foe Georgia State on Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m.
