
Susie Gardner Earns 400th Career Win as Division I Head Coach

224 of Gardner's 400 wins have come as head coach at Mercer
MACON, Ga. – With Mercer's win over Western Carolina on Saturday, Mercer women's basketball head coach Susie Gardner earned her 400th career win as a Division I head coach!
Gardner has reached 400 career wins over the course of her career as head coach at three respective Division I schools, Gardner earned 112 wins in seven seasons at Austin Peay, 64 wins in four seasons at Arkansas, and 224 wins in 13 seasons at Mercer. She has led seven teams – three at Austin Peay and four at Mercer - to the NCAA Tournament. Gardner has over 460 wins in her coaching career, as she began her career as a head coach at Anderson College, a junior college in South Carolina.
Coach Gardner is the all-time winningest coach in Mercer history and has led the Bears to 20-plus wins in seven of the last 10 seasons. Gardner has also guided the Bears to six SoCon Regular Season Titles, four SoCon Tournament Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
In her time at Mercer, Gardner has coached four SoCon Players of the Year. In addition, Gardner has coached three Freshman of the Year winners, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, 14 First Team All-Conference honorees and eight Second Team All-Conference winners. Six freshmen have been awarded a spot on the conference All-Freshmen team under Gardner's tutelage. Gardner has been named SoCon Coach of the Year four times (2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022).Â

At Mercer, Gardner's teams have exceled in the classroom as 36 players have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team.
