Nick Wanzer Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer Senior midfielder Nick Wanzer is the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for games that ended on Monday, October 2.
Wanzer returned to the pitch against a VMI on Saturday, September 30. Wanzer was extremely dominate in the midfield, winning many tackles and causing many VMI players to dispossess the ball. In the 24th minute Wanzer would find the back of the net. Carlos Santamaria played a curling ball into the penalty spot where Wanzer was there to meet it with his head and placed it in the right corner of the goal, increasing the Bears lead to 2-0.
This is Wanzer first time receiving the Defensive Player of the Week Honors from the Southern Conference. Wanzer joins Trevor McMullen and Barzee Blama as the only Bears that have received positional Player of Week honors from the SoCon this season.
Wanzer and the Bears will welcome Georgia State to Betts Stadium in Macon, Georgia on Wednesday, October 4 at 7 PM.
